Why Do I Need a Will?

Unfortunately, death is inevitable for all of us. Studies estimate that 50-60% of Americans die without a will. That is an astonishing number! If you do not have a will, state law will decide where your property will go and, if you have minor children, who will raise them. You spend your entire life working hard to accumulate all of your assets and you should be the one in charge of what happens to them when you die.

Creating a will allows you to take control over where your property will go when you die and who will raise your children, taking that power out of the hands of the state government. Maybe you want all of your things to go to your kids, or maybe you want to make sure that your uncle gets that painting he talks about all the time. Wills can be simple, or very detailed, depending on your wishes. The common theme: everyone needs one.
